Quick Update

So I’m finally back to blogging (which I find incredibly stress relieving). I’m looking forward to December when I’ll have a normal laptop again (not one that requires an external keyboard) so I can blog and email during my breaks at the office.

I also owe emails to nir1, goodall, psychoticjester, stevenh and foucaultonacid which – barring a repeat of Sunday and Monday’s mid-day office paperwork explosions – should be able to be written during my lunch hour tomorrow. If not, I’ll be able to catch up on email Thursday night. I would catch up on email tonight, but I have language assessments that need to be written up and they refuse to write themselves.

So, in order to distract you from the fact that this is really a teaser post, below I provide links to my updated photo galleries here on LJ:

Travels: Israel: Tel Aviv

Being in a Jewish army means that we observe all Jewish holidays. This – with all due respect to the big guy upstairs – plays hell with our work schedule, clogs our work flow and absolutely destroys any sense of normalcy we have. I cannot tell you how much I’m looking forward to no-holiday-that-I’m-aware-of-October.

Peace, Love & Hummus,

Matan

Apples & Honey

So the Jewish New Year is upon us! It’s a time for reflection, for thinking back over the past year and figuring out what we did well, what we didn’t do too well on, where we screwed up, what we did wrong and thinking about what we can do better next time.

It’s a happy time, even sitting on the bus as I made my way to Kibbutz Zikim to spend the holidays with my adoptive Kibbutz Family I felt relieved…sort of like tar, or gunk was just spiritually removing itself…on a non meta-physical level, it’s that time of the year where we get to forgive ourselves, our families, our friends, our colleagues and say “okay…clean slate everyone.”

The interesting part about it is that Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur, while both religious in nature, don’t require God to function. Yes, those of us who are religious or spiritual are are praying to God in someway, for forgiveness. We are asking Him to write us in the book of life for a good and sweet year, one that was better than the last, one where we can overcome problems that had stumped us, one that will give us an opportunity to do better this time…but this is also a time when secular Jews feel they can take part in the celeberation as well and say “happy new year and I’m sorry” which is important too. It’s an annual day of reconciliation for an entire tribe of people who find themselves at all corners of the world.

So, Happy New Year to all! May it be nothing but a sweet, joyful, wonderful, healthy and prosperous year for everyone! L’Shana Tova uMetukah!

Love and Hate It’s All The Same My Way…

Okay, Yes…I know…I know…I love you, I hate you, we’ve been in a lovers spat for like…100 years…possibly more…you were open source, then you were sold to SixApart which was really just dramatic on your part, then you were purchased by the current group of people who have been having some kind of love affair with Frank…I’m not really sure, I’ve only been browsing the news updates…but yes, I’m moving back in…I’ve already sent a truck to pick up my stuff…

I know, I was angry at you…I said some things, you said some things, but I’ve missed the communities and friends we’ve shared…and the longer I’m in the army, the less serious I can take myself…and WordPress, while powerful, is way too serious…and since I’m often away from my computer for a long time, it’s nice to be able to update via cellphone…and, quite frankly…sometimes, like Regretsy, I need some whimsical fuckery in my life, and there isn’t enough of that with WordPress.

I’ll be pointing my domain name here shortly again too…I’m home baby…let’s not fight like this again…I’m tired…I’m tired of the fighting…and then the merging of Journal entries, the editing, the re-tagging…let’s let bygones be bygones and next time we fight, fuck it, we’ll just open up a nice little place in Santa Fe.
